Once upon a time when I got admission in Class 9
(Matriculation) at Government Pilot Secondary School Sialkot after completion
of my education from the rural Middle School of Rasulpur Bhallian. I went to
Urdu Bazaar, Sialkot and bought new books from "Shah and Sons". I was
very happy and returned to my village Raja Harpal, about eight miles east of
Sialkot city. My mother was waiting for my return from school as she used to do
every day. She was also very happy that I have the books which I needed. I opened the
books, checked the prices and made the total. The total was wrong. The
shopkeeper had not added the price of one book and that was book of
"Physics". I told my mother. She advised me not to read the books
till the price is fully paid. I followed the instructions of my mother. Next
day I took all the books to "Shah and Sons" and told Shah Sahib that
total of prices of the books was wrong. He checked the total and I paid the
remaining amount.
It was month of April 1965. Later in September 1965
the war between India and Pakistan broke up. Our village was occupied by Indian
Army. We moved to an other village situated to North West of Sialkot City. We
stayed there for more than Six months. After an Agreement between India and
Pakistan we returned to our village. During six months' occupation, Indian Army
had demolished and burnt our house where walls were fallen on roof except one
wall where my School Bag was hanging but burnt. The house was burnt and many
times it had been rained. When I reached my house I saw that my book of
"Physics" had fallen out of the Bag and was still totally safe. It
had neither caught the fire nor damaged by rain. I thought it was all due to my
mother's honest advice to pay the price of books before opening them for reading.
Honesty pays. Honesty is the best policy.
I love my mother who always taught me keeping up
good values. May Allah Almighty place her soul close to the Prophets, Martyrs,
Truthful and Righteous people Ameen Sum Ameen
